August 4

Alternate Shot

A day to introduce the entire league to Alternate Shot. "Alternate shot" is a golf competition format in which two golfers play as partners, playing only one golf ball, taking turns playing the strokes. In other words, the two golfers alternate taking shots. Prior to play the 2-person team will decide which player will tee off on the odd holes and which will tee off on the evens. The team(s) with the lowest score will be the winner. Alternate shot is commonly known as foursomes in the Ryder Cup. Cards dotted with the team handicap will be provided on the play day.

August 11

Best Ball

A day to introduce the entire league to Best Ball. Best Ball (also known as fourball in the Ryder Cup) involves 2-person teams where each player on the team plays her own golf ball throughout the round. After each hole the player with the lowest NET score on the hole (or "best ball") out of the 2-person team serves as the team's score. The higher scoring player's score is thrown out for that particular hole. The team with the lowest score is the winning team. This is one of the two games played on the first day of the Davis Cup. Cards dotted with player handicaps will be provided on play day.

The course will be available for anyone not playing in the Davis Cup. In addition, we will invite the Town & Country membership to join us if they would like. The hostesses will determine the foursomes, but there will be no game of the day, closest-to-the-pin or Chip-in contests.
